Frances Yip Lai-yee (born 1947) is a Hong Kong Cantopop singer who is most known for her work in the 1980s. However, because of her height and powerful voice, she served in the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force for a period of time in the 1980s and early 1990s. She is most known for singing the themes for numerous television programmes produced by TVB during that time period. Frances Yip, who was born in 1947 and is of Hakka heritage, rose to worldwide prominence with her trademark song, The Bund, from the TVB drama of the same name.
Before she became famous, she recorded tribute albums to vocalists like as Adam Cheng, Roman Tam, and Jenny Tseng, who had originally sung the songs on her previous albums. Yip has produced more over 80 CDs over the course of her 45-year career, the majority of which include songs in American English, Indonesian, Thai, Malay, Mexican Spanish, Japanese, Tagalog, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Over the course of her career, she has been on television, in films, concerts, and cabarets in more than 30 countries across five continents.

It is her privilege to have performed with orchestras such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, the Macao China Philharmonic Orchestra, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Youth Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the Thammasat University Philharmonic Orchestra, all of which are based in Bangkok, as well as large orchestras in Kuala Lumpur and other cities.
Following her selection by the Hong Kong government to be a presenter at the British Farewell Ceremony, which commemorated Hong Kong’s handover of sovereignty, Frances gained international acclaim. The event, which took place on June 30th, 1997, was broadcast live to an estimated 120 million people in more than 80 countries across the world on television. Yip is proficient in Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), as well as English and other languages. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and had overcome it.
